Salado Museum & College Park

The primary mission of the Salado Museum & College Park is to narrate the historical progression and growth of Central Texas while offering a secure and accessible haven for the preservation and exhibition of these significant artifacts.

With its ties to the Robertson family, who facilitated the settlement of about 600 families, primarily of Scottish heritage, in Texas, the museum aids individuals in delving into their Celtic ancestry. While our narrative embraces the stories of all Central Texans, our distinctive reputation lies in hosting Texas’ oldest and most distinguished Scottish festival. The three-day Scottish Clans & Highland Games Gathering in November invites all US-based Scottish Clan Societies. This vibrant event showcases premier competitions for Highland Dancers, Pipers, and Bands, along with spirited Scottish Athletic contests, folk performances, and diverse vendors.

Throughout the year, our establishment features the “Wee Scots Shop,” an exhibit wing, and a versatile auditorium available for special event rentals. Within our premises, a dedicated historical memorabilia section exhibits both our exclusive artifacts and displays curated by Salado Historical Society members. Our meeting hall proudly showcases fine art, including paintings. Our history is rich with diverse engagements, such as Genealogy Workshops, Readers and Writers Roundtables, and expansive member-wide rummage sales.

The “Wee Scots Shop” caters to enthusiasts with an array of items, including family tartan ties and scarves, kilt hose, sporrans, an assortment of jewelry (spanning Clan Crest pins, Celtic cross necklaces, earrings, keychains, and more), and an assortment of books covering Texas history, local history, and Scottish history. Moreover, we offer Scottish recreation swords, daggers, knives, Highland Games-themed t-shirts, and an opportunity to print family history parchments complete with Clan Crests.

Beyond our exhibits, our hall has found purpose as a venue for club meetings, family reunions, wedding receptions, counseling retreats, and educational seminars. The Scots Hall at the Central Texas Area Museum stands prepared to accommodate a diverse range of events, ready to create memorable experiences for all occasions.
